The Kauri Foreshore Hotel. Glebe, down near the fish markets.
Limited wine list, and only a few beers on tap. The Blackwattle Bay foreshore walk has been done really well. Gorgeous day in the sun for a walk… the company was better than the pub.
We deliberately sought out a dog friendly pub somewhere near the water this weekend as Sydney was set to experience a beautiful (record breaking) 26 degree winter’s day.
Dick’s is an iconic Balmain hotel, well known to Swans fans as a designated fan hotel showing every Swans game live. A very suburban hotel opposite The Exchange in Beattie St, it has a really clever canvas sound shell over the dog-friendly beer garden that contains the noise and keeps the neighbours happy.
A good range of beers and ciders on tap in the various bars.
What a great little local.
Right near the very end of Darling Street, close to the wharf and bus turning circle, this hotel is a great place to relax in one of the various cars and dining areas.
A great outdoor area, a cozy fire, good range of beers on tap and a decent menu from the kitchen.
It would be a terrific place to book an area for a birthday.
We’ll be back.
The Hunters Hill Hotel… not really a local as it’s a bit more commercial and frequented by plenty of people who have traveled to this well known sports pub.
Recently renovated, it has a great kitchen that pumps out up-market pub grub all day, and huge screens for the folks who come to watch whatever live sport is on.

An early morning ride along the Alexandria Canal from Tempe to Alexandria.
Enjoyed breakfast at The Grounds cafe.
Not really what could be described as a scenic ride… it is along a canal and beside an airport after all, but still, a bit of blue on the map to fill in, and breaking at an institution such as The Grounds… well, any excuse will do!
This weekend we finished the link from the Cooks River to the Parramatta River (Sydney Harbour) by riding from the Cave Road shops at South Strathfield (where we finished one day in August) near the end of the Cooks River through Strathfield to Homebush.
The excellent bike path peters out unfortunately and isn’t great all the way through to the Olympic site where we rode in March but still, a lot of paths and quiet streets.
Only a few weeks left to complete the “West of the Bridge” year 🙂
Need to do The Bay Run at Drummoyne/Leichhardt and maybe a bit of Duck Creek near Auburn, or follow the beautiful (!!??) Alexandria Canal to breakfast at The Grounds and we’re done. #timing

Credit where it’s due. The local councils have done a terrific job of building a river front walk along the northern bank of the Parramatta River. Today we walked from the Rydalmere ferry stop west to Parramatta, past hundreds of new apartments (thousands of beds?), through industrial blocks, through University of Western Sydney and on to Parramatta ferry stop.
A quick coffee at the Port Bar Restaurant before continuing west into Parramatta Park before turning around and catching the ferry back to Rydalmere.
Great walk.
Glorious spring day for a walk from Mortlake to Rhodes, through Concord and the grounds of Dame Edith Walker Hospital, Thomas Walker Hospital near Concord Hospital and Yaralla.
